Geographical location
Yantai Prefecture lies in the eastern part of Shandong Peninsula, on the north coast at the boundary of the Bohai and Yellow Seas. It is close to Japan and North and South Korea.

Yantai Prefecture is divided into 12 counties, of which four are the districts of Yantai City. Also within its boundaries are three independent county level administrative districts: an Economic and Technological Development Zone, an Export Processing Zone, and a High and New Technological & Industrial Park.
Facts and figures
Yantai Prefecture has an area of about 13,745 square kilometers, of which the Yantai City itself is 2,643 square kilometers, with a population of 6.5 million. The region has abundant agricultural and natural resources. Yantai is well-known for its quality fruits, its sea products, and for its cluster of wineries. Yantai’s gold mines are famous throughout China.
Industry
Since the policy of Opening and Reform was adopted in 1978, the government of Yantai has advanced five dominant industries: automobile manufacturing, computer manufacturing, cell phone manufacturing, wine making, and gold mining. The total output value reached 343.42 billion yuan in 2008.

With both seacoast and mountains, Yantai City enjoys a pleasant climate with four seasons. The average daytime temperature is about 8 degrees centigrade in the winter and about 23 degrees centigrade in the summer. Its climate has made it one of northern China’s most popular summer resort and tourist destinations. It is commonly called a “fairy land” or a “golden beach” city.
Culture
Yantai has a long and well established artistic and athletic culture. The ancient folk culture of the Jiaodong Peninsula originated in Yantai. It is also the cradle of Shandong cuisine, one of the four exquisite and renowned cuisines of China. Yantai is the hometown of Peiking opera and quite a few track and field athletes grew up here.
Development
Yantai is one of the fourteen coastal cities first approved by the State Council in 1984 to open to the outside world. The central government has attached great importance to Yantai’s development as one of the key cities of the Bohai Economic Rim. With the goal of building itself into a modern port city and developing its regional influence, the spirit of Yantai’s sustainable development is expressed in the following principles:

    Yantai Hill park

    It is the symbol of Yantai City, which is famous for the Smoke Platform(an alarming signal system in ancient times), the lighthouse and the western-style buildings of foreign consulates built before the 1940s.

    Penglai Pavilion

    Penglai Pavilion, situated in Penglai City of Yantai, was built in 1056. It was expanded in 1589(Ming Dynasty) and renovated in 1819 (Qing Dynasty). Covering an area of 1,9000 square metres, the temple is fifteen metres high and is two-storeyed-wooden –structure. Harmoniously standing together with Luji Hall, Tianyuan Hall, the King of Dragon Palace, Sanging Hall, Mituo Temple Duke Su Hall, the temple and the other buildings have formed a group of splendid ancient typical Chinese architectures. The well-known legend of “Eight Fairies Crossing the Sea” was originated here. Mirage here, the marvelous natural phenomenon, is known to everybody. Since Penglai is the place where poets and scholars gathered in those days, so, many stone tablets of Song, Ming and Qing Dynasties are still preserved now.

    Changyu Wine Culture Museum

    Changyu Wine Culture Museum is located in Yantai Changyu Company ZHIFU Main Road site, in 1992, Changyu centennial celebrations on the eve of the company, 4.5 million yuan investment in the building of Changyu Wine Culture Museum, and was opened in September 1992. In 2000, Changyu, based on the old site, along the lines of 111 years ago, the architectural style of the early factories, according to the design of Tsinghua University, alteration, expansion of the Changyu Wine Culture Museum, on September 8, 2002 -- Changyu's 110 years of Daqing, "International Vine and Wine Forum," the opening ceremony of the International Vine and Wine Board, and Mr. Ding Luote Honorary Secretary Robert Changyu Group Chairman Mr. Sun Liqiang to jointly open a new hall door to Wine Heritage Museum officially opened.
    Changyu Wine Culture Museum is a wine culture square, a hundred years large underground cellar, integrated hall, history room, TV room, a modern hall, calligraphy and painting room, treasure room, leisure shopping hall, conference reception hall, the information network center, marketing center and the composition of a modern office. Changyu Wine Culture Museum of the main area of nearly 4,000 m, with a total floor area of approximately 10,000 m2, museums, scenic area covers an area of about 30000 m2, large wine cellar covers an area of 2,666 square meters.

    Kunyu Mountain

    Kunyu Mountain is located in the eastern end of Jiaodong Peninsular. It lies across Yantai and Weihai. It has good communication facilities and is 50 kilometers away from the railway station, port and airport. As a national forest park and the birthplace of Quan Zhen Tao(Taoism), it is rich in tourist resources. Mountain Kunyu ranges rise and fall, with high and precipitous terrain. With its peaks rising one higher than another, its scenery is very magnificent. It has 72 distinguished peaks of various shapes. The main mountaion is called the " ancestor of wonder mountaions " of the East Sea.The forest coverage of Mountain Kunyu is up to 80%. There are 60 families and 340 species of wood plants, over 600 species of herbaceous plants, and 348 species of ornament flowers. Among them, 14 species are listed in the key plants specially protected by the state. With the beautiful scenery of hills and waters, Mountain Kunyu is the best tourist attraction and summer resort. The development fo Mountain Kunyu has been listed in the general planning of Yantai Urban Tourist Development. At preasant, there are already 5 large scenic spots, such as Taibo Summit, Yanxia Cave, Nine--dragon Pond, Yuegu Hall, Wuran Temple, which attract large number of tourists each year.

    The Golden Beach Park

    The Golden Beach Park lies in the north of the development zone and extends along the seashore, featuring bule sea, soft sand , flourishing forests and fresh air. It has grown into a comprehensive park combining swimming, sightseeing, entertaining and delicious food. Blessed with gifts both natural and manmade, the Golden Beach Park welcomes the world.

     

    Mushi Demesne

    Mushi Demesne was firstly constructed during the Yongzheng Period of Qing Dynasty. After one hundred-years expansion, now it covers an area of 20,000 square meters with over 480 rooms. It refects historic culture, architectural culture and social culture of ancient China. It is the largest yard buildings with residence feature of the north China which is protected well currently. It is also the key culture relic institute protected by the state, and reputed as the history memory of 600-year social cultures and the " civil imperial palace ". The annual culture festival is the most attractive civil activity. The specialist of the international organization made high evaluation on it and proposed to apply for the title of international culture relics. In 2000 defined this project was defined as the preferential development project Shandong Province..

    Nanshan Scenic Spot Zone

    Nanshan Scenic Spot Zone is situated in Longkou City which is on the coastal line of the Bohai Sea. The zone takes the hotel, recreation palace and international golf course as center and it can meet the need of consumers at all levels. The Nanshan Hotel is the three-star international hotel which has relaxation, meeting and amusenent facilities. Occuping an area of 36,000 square meters, the Nanshan Recreation Palace is the Asian largest recreation center, which is the ideal place for relaxation. The biggest figure of Buddha in the world is also in the Nanshan Scenic Spot Zone, whose height is 28.66 meters and weight is 380 tons. The main scenic spots include Jimu Island, the General Stone, Hu Dahai Square, Sang Island, Yi Island, the Home Village of XuFu, the Former Residence of the Ding Family, Karts Cave of Small Laishan Hill and Nanshan Scenic Area.
