Yantai University (YTU) is a key comprehensive university in Shandong Province, located in Laishan District in the eastern suburbs of Yantai. The 210 hectare campus is situated in a diverse topographical area of mountains, sea coast, and farmlands. The area enjoys a very moderate, temperate climate with four distinct seasons. Dr. Cui Mingde, the Chairman of the Yantai University Council (CUC), is a well-known scholar of Chinese History. The president of Yantai University, Dr. Fang Shaokun, is a renowned scholar of Chinese Civil and Commercial Law.

Upon its establishment in 1984, the two most renowned institutions of higher education in China, Peking University and Tsinghua university, sent teaching, scientific research, and administrative staff to help Yantai University in its early development. Later, in 1990, the Committee of Peking and Tsinghua University was founded to give continuous support to Yantai University.
The combined facilities contain a total of 790,000 square meters of classroom, office and other space. Total investment in teaching facilities is RMB160 million. The library hosts a collection of 2.4 million volumes.
YTU has become a center for teaching and research in Jiaodong Peninsula. There are five key provincial level disciplines:

Its various colleges and institutes have programs in 21 branches of learning, including basic and applied sciences, social sciences and the humanities, economics and management, and architecture. The university is home to 31 research institutes and has 51 undergraduate programs, 52 graduate programs and 2 professional master’s degree programs. Its aim for the future is to rank among China’s best universities.
YTU is proud of its 1,966 outstanding faculty. There are 595 full and associate professors, 285 with doctoral degrees, including one member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) and one recognized by the Ministry of Education as one of the “100 Outstanding National Teachers”. An additional 100 teachers will receive their doctoral degrees within the next few years.

Publications
The university publishes the Journal of Yantai University, Natural, Science and Engineering Edition, and the Journal of Yantai University, Philosophy and Social Sciences Edition, both of which have been categorized as national key publications and national best publications.
International Cooperation
YTU has established friendly relations with 70 universities in 20 nations and regions. Each year 200 teachers and students travel abroad to study as exchange scholars or students. Every year there are approximately 300 visiting scholars at YTU doing research, along with 50 foreign teachers. Approximately 600 international students register at YTU each year to study various subjects.
